Interested in Volunteering?
It takes a lot of hands to make light work!
Volunteer opportunities at AC/BC include boothing at events, helping Elders with transport, and more!
As a volunteer, you will get a sneak peek at AC/BC operations and help make culture accessible and Anishinaabemowin learning possible in so-called “BC”.
Volunteers are recognized at our Annual General Meeting, usually held in Fall or Winter.
If you are interested in volunteering, email us at aaniin [@] nishbc.com.
It is helpful for us to know the following when you reach out:
- What types of volunteer opportunities you are comfortable doing (e.g., boothing, driving Elders, craft preparation, etc.)?
- How much time you can commit to volunteering (e.g., only weekend workshops, no nights M-F)?
- Do you have a valid BC Driver’s License?
- If so, what class?
Does AC/BC Have Paid Positions?
AC/BC does not have regular full-time or part-time staff. Based on our finances at a given time, AC/BC does support language program and operational, administrative volunteer team through small contracts and honoraria when available. Otherwise, AC/BC is maintained through pro-bono and volunteer labour.
If a role becomes available that has funding for a short contract, the opportunity will be posted on the AC/BC website.
A director on the Society’s Board may hold a contract if the individual meets the prerequisite criteria (e.g., be a qualified Anishinaabemowin speaker/teacher). To avoid conflicts of interest, the award of a contract to a Director is done by a membership vote. Voting is done either at the Annual General Meeting annually or by an ad hoc, special vote. Special votes are announced to our membership with advanced notice.
Otherwise, expressions of interest for small contracted roles are assessed by the Society’s Board and confirmed through Board Resolution & vote.
